Appraisal (read as Praise Yourself)

I believe, some of us are in the midst of writing, updating or worrying about the performance appraisal (or whatever name your workplace call it). Those who do not familiar, it is the assessment of your performance.

Certainly in my office, this is talk of the month.

As said by a friend of mine "Zairy, setahun ko tak buat keje pun takpe..Yg penting ayat mesti mau power!!"

Frankly, I don't buy it. I rather have 'real' work than good points. IT IS NOT I AM THAT GOOD. Perhaps because I realized I did not perform, that is why I prefer to have average score.

When I was in audit life, each assignment should be attached with an assessment. I remembered writing 4-5 within half a year.
Luckily it is just once a year in my current employment. Even then, what a feeling to update that!!!I HATE IT MOST!!

I hate to impress anybody with my job. I hate to justify why I badly need high score. I hate people claim credits for what they did not deserved to..

Enough said. For this year's appraisal, due to my long absence (4 & 1/2 months), I put relatively poor mark for my own, in which my colleagues disagree. Definitely illness (in my case, it is cancer) is something you never wish for..
It's not that I took long leave for a vacation or something.. (Although I did travel in my final week of medical leave..hehe..sorry!!)
Quite surprising..my boss asked me to revise my score, at least to be at the average range..hmmm, should I buy her lunch?

But I have to be fair to myself & my company as well. For me, even I get half the bonus than the rest do..I think I'll be just fine. (Er..sure or not??!!hehehe). Insya-Allah, may I will always be contented for what I have..Amin..

However, all the above are purely my personal opinion. Nevertheless, I fully support friends & people who deserve to be accredited for hard-work & commitment towards the jobs. I just against those who write everything on earth just to praise themselves..

See you then..Adios & Salam..

Wallahua'lam..

Despatch who drives a Camry

"To be sitting & doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up"

I am not so sure whether this quotation is making any sense to you or not, but for me..it reminds me of somebody.

During a discussion with my colleague when we wrapped up our top management monthly report, I suddenly have this to say "I feel that our boss is more like a despatch"

It is not that I would like to insult the one sitting on 'that' chair. It's just the reality. We as the sender (the one prepare, analyze & complete the report..most importantly, take the blame for any error) & the receivers are the Top Management. So, the one who do nothing (might be an understatement.. actually 'review' for any lay-out or typo error) except that passing the report..What should we call then?

I have no ill-feeling towards anybody, really.
If you are paid RM20K++ with a company car, I don't mind being a despatch though..

No offence... Just my little thought.. Happy working everybody.. :-)

Are You a Member of the 99 Club?

Long ago, there lived a King. This King should have been contented with his life, given all the riches and luxuries he had. However, this was not the case! The King always found himself wondering why he just never seemed contented with his life. Sure, he had the attention of everyone wherever he went, attended fancy dinners and parties, but somehow, he still felt something was lacking and he couldn't put his finger on it.

One day, the King had woken up earlier than usual to stroll around his palace. He entered his huge living room and came to a stop when he heard someone happily singing away... following his singing, he saw that one of the servants was singing and had a very contented look on his face. This fascinated the King and he summoned this man to his chambers.

The man, his servant, entered the King's chambers as ordered. The King asked why he was so happy?

To this the man replied, 'Your Majesty, I am nothing but a servant but I make enough of a living to keep my wife and children happy. We don't need too much, a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummy. My wife and children are inspiration, they are contented with whatever little I bring home. I am happy because my family is happy.'

Hearing this, the King dismissed the servant and summoned his Personal Assistant to his chambers. The King related his personal anguish about his feelings and then related the story of the servant to his Personal Assistant, hoping that somehow, he will be able to come up with some reasoning that here was a King who could have anything he wished for at a snap of his fingers and yet was not contented, whereas, his servant, having so little was extremely contented.

The Personal Assistant listened attentively and came to a conclusion. He said, 'Your Majesty, I believe that the servant has not been made part of the 99 Club.'

'The 99 Club? And what exactly is that?' the King inquired.

To which the Assistant replied, 'Your Majesty, to truly know what the 99 Club is, you will have to do the following... place 99 Gold coins in a bag and leave it at this servant's doorstep, you will then understand what the 99 Club is.'

That very same evening, the King arranged for 99 Gold coins to be placed in a bag at the servant's doorstep. Although he was slightly hesitant and he thought he should have put 100 Gold coins into the bag, but since his assistant had advised him to put 99 coins, that is what he did.

The servant was just stepping out of his house when he saw a bag at his doorstep. Wondering about its contents, he took it into his house and opened the bag. When he opened the bag, he let out a great big shout of joy... Gold coins... so many of them. He could hardly believe it. He called his wife to show her the coins. He then took the bag to a table and emptied it out and began to count the coins. Doing so, he realised that there were 99 coins and he thought it was an odd number so he counted again and again and again only to come to the same conclusion.. 99 Gold Coins.

He began to wonder, what could have happened to that last 1 coin? For no one would leave 99 coins. He began to search his entire house, looked around his backyard for hours, not wanting to lose out on that one coin. Finally, exhausted, he decided that he was going to have to work harder than ever to make up for that 1 Gold coin to make his entire collection an even 100 Gold Coins.

He got up the next morning, in an extremely horrible mood, shouting at the children and his wife for his delay, not realising that he had spent most the of the night conjuring ways of working hard so that he had enough money to buy himself that gold coin. He went to work as usual - only not in his usual best mood, singing happily - as he grumpily did his daily errands.

Seeing the man's attitude change so drastically, the King was puzzled. He promptly summoned his Assistant to his chambers. The King related his thoughts about the servant and once again, his Assistant listened. The King could not believe that the servant who until yesterday had been singing away and was happy and content with his life had taken a sudden change of attitude, even though he should have been happier after receiving the gold coins.

To this the Assistant replied, 'Ah! but your Majesty, the servant has now officially joined the 99 Club.'

He explained, 'The 99 Club is just a name given to those people who have everything but yet are never contented, therefore they are always working hard and striving for the extra 1 to round it out to 100!!! We have so much to be thankful for and we can live with very little in our lives, but the minute we are given something bigger and better, we want even more! We are not the same happy contented person we used to be, we want more and more and by wanting more and more we don't realise the price we pay for it. We lose our sleep, our happiness, we hurt the people around us just as a price to pay for our growing needs and desires. That is what joining the 99 Club is all about.'

Hearing this the King decided that from that day onwards, he was going to start appreciating all the little things in life. Striving for more is always good, but let's not strive so hard and for so much that we lose all those near and dear to our hearts, we shouldn't compromise our happiness for moments of luxuries!!

Are we?

Berdua Lebih Baik (Dedication to a Friend)

Salam..

Life is full of uncertainties.. Life is full of surprises..
Disagree with me? I guess we are living in different planet.

Well, let me just straight to the point.
Just when I felt that I had enough list of surprises this year (on top of the list must be definitely my illness, here came my friend confessed to me that he is going to get married by end of this year. Get what??

It is not that I don't like him getting engaged & married subsequently. My wife & I are more than happy for him. It is just like..."OK, you know her for less than a year & yet you have decided on the most important thing in life". If that surprise is not enough, his future wife is someone within our 'population'. I mean "she" is among our friends' families. What a small world!!!

Our fate (takdir) works in the most mysterious way, you see.
A couple who knew each other for more than 10 years not necessarily ended with a marriage.
Yet there are couples who do not know each other end up married on the next day!

So my friend,
When we believe that this is Allah's will, we will always be grateful for what is happening to us.
Whether good or bad things, always bear in mind.. there must be a reason behind it. So live with it and you will find life is more meaningful.

Just a piece of advice..The engagement is just the beginning. Hmm, perhaps it is not even a beginning.
Imagine a 100m sprint, the engagement is the warm up before preparing yourself at the starting block.

However, things absolutely gonna change come Sunday & I believe you are ready for this new chapter.
All the best & may Allah ease everything for you. Amin..

Happy Engagement Day!!

While the above is for those 'in love', this song dedicated to anybody who are looking for love..hehehe..
Yes, berdua lebih baik. However, syurga bukan satu hala. Even the single will enter Al-Jannah. No worries..

Enjoy Teman by XPDC, one of my favourites.. Cheers..

(Click here to hear the song)

Suatu petang yang damai
Kau ku lihat
Menanti seorang teman
Teman yang takkan datang

Engkau ku perhatikan
Setia lagi
Apalagi yang dinanti
Teman yang takkan datang

Biar ku pujuk ke mari
Hati yang sedang pilu
Kau genggamlah tanganku
Aku bawa kau pergi

Syurga bukan satu hala
Aku nanti di sini
Setelah sekian lama
Kau memendam dendam

Kekasihku
Tidak datang setelah berjanji
Aku pun sudah merasakannya
Kita bagaikan
Suatu arah menanti sendirian
Walau dalam hujan lebat

Ku nanti nanti nanti nanti, sendiri lagi

Suatu warna yang gelap
Dahulu hidup penuh
Dengan keseorangan
Seorang lagi teman

Setelah sekian lama kau memendam dendam...

The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History

I knew about this book a long time ago.
If I'm not mistaken, Ustaz Zahazan did mentioned this book but I never bother to look out for it.
When I visited resource centre, accidentally I saw it on the shelf & just grasp it right away.

Yes, this book might be written by a non-Muslim, Michael H.Hart but the man on top of the list is our Prophet Muhammad!

Here's some excerpts from the book:

"My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels."

"Of humble origins, Muhammad founded and promulgated one of the world's great religions, and became an immensely effective political leader. Today, thirteen centuries after his death, his influence is still powerful and pervasive."

"How, then, is one to assess the overall impact of Muhammad on human history? Like all religions, Islam exerts an enormous influence upon the lives of its followers. It is for this reason that the founders of the world's great religions all figure prominently in this book . Since there are roughly twice as many Christians as Moslems in the world, it may initially seem strange that Muhammad has been ranked higher than Jesus. There are two principal reasons for that decision. First, Muhammad played a far more important role in the development of Islam than Jesus did in the development of Christianity. Although Jesus was responsible for the main ethical and moral precepts of Christianity (insofar as these differed from Judaism), St. Paul was the main developer of Christian theology, its principal proselytizer, and the author of a large portion of the New Testament."

Full article as of in the book can be read here.

To share some of the info, below are the top 10 of the list..

1. Muhammad
2. Isaac Newton
3. Jesus Christ
4. Buddha
5. Confucius
6. St. Paul
7. Ts ai Lun
8. Johann Gutenberg
9. Christopher Columbus
10. Albert Einstein

Some sound familiar, while some we never ever heard before.

One thing we might consider, however, is to follow as close as possible the path of Prophet Muhammad, his actions, sayings & everything relevant as much as we could.

Even a non-Muslim can appreciate the role of our Prophet, what more we as a Muslim who days & nights declared the Oneness of Allah & Prophet Muhammad as His Messenger..
Hope this may inspire us in one way or another, insya-Allah..

What's Life About..Aidilfitri 1429H

Although my overall Aidilfitri celebration was just nice & fine, perhaps not to certain people..
What more if the people who are close to us..

Can we be happy & still laughing when we found out somebody is in misery?
They might put smile on their faces, but who can understand what's deep inside their hearts..

Scene 1
Separated from wife & children is the last thing I want to hear. But, who can deny the destiny that Allah has set.
I believe, he is strong enough with this test & I pray for his every success in any relationships afterwards.
Be patient my friend.. She is not good enough for you, believe me..
Allah will replace with somebody who is much, much better..
Insya-Allah...

Scene 2 (a)
She lost her husband 3 days before Ramadhan..
Her late husband happened to be my former teacher in primary school.
It was a sudden death. On that fateful night; heart attack, fell & passed away..
"When Allah decided on the death (AJAL), HE will not postpone nor advance even for second"

Wallahua'lam..

Scene 2 (b)
Not only that, during Ramadhan she also found out that his son (who was my ex-classmate, sit next to me) caught & imprisoned in Thailand.
He was charged for murdering 3 policemen & one of the suspects involved in the JI movement.

Auntie, I was speechless when we visited you the other day..
Allah will test His servant on what he/she capable of..
This is too hard, but you are the chosen one. No other can accept this test as strong as you are.
While I pray for the late 'Cikgu', may Allah reward him with Al-Jannah...I do hope & pray for the safety & release of your beloved son. Amin..

Scene 3,4,5...
You name it..
Caught in accident? Money stolen? Fall sick? Dying illness? The list is endless..

This is part & parcel of life..
Every time we feel the difficulty we have is too much, think of others who suffer even worse than us..

Note: These are true stories which I hope we can learn & think about it.
Just a lesson or two will do..These are the things that will make us closer to Allah..

Wallahua'lam.
